Embarkation:

We were on the cruise immediately after the lady went overboard and as such embarkation was a total mess. We arrived at the cruise terminal at around 11am at which time the ship was not there. The next few hours were spent sitting in the cruise terminal waiting for the ship and eventually to board (we had the option to go back into Venice, but it was very hot and we wanted to be at the front of the line to get on the ship, so we stayed). It was evident that the staff were not prepared for this situation, but they did give us biscuits and water and open up another seating area for the extra people. Once the ship arrived, we eventually managed to check-in (after having spent many hours standing in line). After this we were given a number and were promptly called to board, so we were on the ship by 7pm. Obviously this was not the start to our cruise that we wanted, but I wouldn't blame NCL for this as the circumstances were completely out of their control and unprepared for.
