Review for Hawaii Cruise on Pride of America

Overall, the experience was good, but that was largely due to the itinerary. But this isn't a review of Hawaii (which is amazing), it's about the cruise. The main areas were clean. People were generally helpful. Although the dining reservation team could use some help as they are manning both the phone lines and the physical line at the same time, I found that the staff tried to make the best of what they had to work with. Breakfast was decent enough. Embarkment and disembarkment was quick and painless. It was fun being greeted with leis upon arrival. Our room stewart was very friendly and ready to help with anything we needed.

However, the entertainment was lacking. The comedian was even offensive I'm sure to some cultures in his opening show. We didn't even bother going to see him later in the week. The food was poor. We dined in two specialty restaurants, both of which did not provide good food. I thought the restaurants that you pay for would be at least a step above the complimentary food, but that was not the case. I'm not sure if stewards have sufficient time to clean as thoroughly as they should be able to after each cruise given that this ship leaves every week. Our toilet in our cabin was dirty. Had hair, stains, etc. The shower head could have been cleaner. Thankfully I had some wipes and could clean off the shower handles as those weren't clean either. Also, the least they could do is clean the windows in the staterooms so you can actually see out of it! And no, that's not an exaggeration. They were filthy and hard to see out of and definitely couldn't take any pictures of the view out of the window if you wanted to. The drinks were expensive and not very good. Seems like they water drinks down, cups were overflowing with ice - literally, before pouring in the drink, etc. If the drinks are going to be watered down and not made correctly, they shouldn't be costing $16 on average! I believe the experience could be enhanced so much more if more time is spent in improving the actual cruise ship experience, rather than just using the itinerary as the highlight. Albeit that is the purpose in choosing this cruise - to see Hawaii, but it would've been nice to come back in the evenings to a little more luxury (i.e. - see out the window), a nice show and better food.

We thoroughly enjoyed our trip to Hawaii. Hawaii is a great destination. Our trip could've been sent over the top had our cruise ship experience matched the destination.
