Holland America Rotterdam is 20 years old and looks and feels like it! The furniture in the common area rooms were worn and need to be replaced. I noticed the seams in the carpeting material covering the step next to the windows in the buffet dining area were coming apart and no one attended to it during the 7 days of our New England Cruise. Upon reading other reviews, I find that the Rotterdam was recently refurbished...VERY POOR JOB! This ship is NOT being maintained in the proper manner for the comfort and value of it's passengers!
I also noticed that there was rust on our veranda. The windows of our "suite", the material used for the balcony view and the buffet and common area (library, game room, etc.) windows were dirty from the day we boarded the ship until the day before we disembarked. We had late seating in the dining room so it was too dark to tell what the condition of the lovely picture windows were there. We spent our cruise looking out VERY dirty, gray windows!
We also feel the the Vista "Suite" for which we paid an additional fee, was NOT a suite...it was VERY small. I noticed that a similar review was entered by dhshultz and, in fact, this was verified by Guest Services who told reviewer dhshultz that it was actually a "stateroom".

Too small to be advertised as a "suite". We could hardly sit on the sofa with our legs down because the coffee table was too close to the sofa with no where else to go. It was difficult navigating the space between the bed and the veranda. We could not enjoy our veranda because the half window while we were sitting or relaxing prevented us from seeing the ocean or the shoreline.
