The cruise was chosen for the itinerary - a journey around some of the islands of French Polynesia - not because we specifically wanted to travel with Holland America. What we liked: - islands did not disappoint, itinerary was good (one island was missed due to swells) - ship not crowded (around 1,200 people) - passengers well behaved (the cruise was heavily biased towards the over 60 crowd, which included us) - staff generally friendly and polite - cabin accomodation clean and comfortable What we didn't care for: - cruise expensive, we were prepared to pay but did not feel it offered 'value-for-money' - cabin lacked the space and amenities associated with a suite in other cruise lines - food in Lido buffet repetitive; more choice of cuisine urgently needed - shore excursions were conducted by outside companies (zodiacs not yet operating), ship just added a booking premium - encountered a number of staff with very limited English language capability (they should be offered lessons at the company's expense) - enterainment options could be improved eg onboard cinema - shops limited eg area dominated by an overly-large jewelry retailer Overall, an interesting experience but we would probably not sail with this line again.

Could have been better

The cruise was chosen for the itinerary - a journey around some of the islands of French Polynesia - not because we specifically wanted to travel with Holland America.

What we liked:

- islands did not disappoint, itinerary was good (one island was missed due to swells)

- ship not crowded (around 1,200 people)

- passengers well behaved (the cruise was heavily biased towards the over 60 crowd, which included us)

- staff generally friendly and polite

- cabin accomodation clean and comfortable

What we didn't care for:

- cruise expensive, we were prepared to pay but did not feel it offered 'value-for-money'

- cabin lacked the space and amenities associated with a suite in other cruise lines

- food in Lido buffet repetitive; more choice of cuisine urgently needed

- shore excursions were conducted by outside companies (zodiacs not yet operating), ship just added a booking premium

- encountered a number of staff with very limited English language capability (they should be offered lessons at the company's expense)

- enterainment options could be improved eg onboard cinema

- shops limited eg area dominated by an overly-large jewelry retailer

Overall, an interesting experience but we would probably not sail with this line again.

Cabin Review

Vista Suite with Verandah
Cabin BC
- Bed quite comfortable, choice of two types of pillow
- Balcony good (very private);
- Shower fine
- Tried to use bath - ok but small and difficult to get in and out of (and we have no mobility issues)
- Plenty of hanging space for clothes

- Cabin not terribly spacious for a 'suite'
- Decor and soft furnishings need an update (although the carpet seemed new)
- TV and DVD player basic and situated in a difficult position
- Power outlets limited
