This was our third (!) cruise for the year, a record for us. But after our last cruise, on NCL, all we could talk about is "when is the next cruise!?". We started checking out ships leaving near us; my DH and I live on St. Croix in the US Virgin Islands. So San Juan, PR is our closest home port. In 2011, we took the Summit from NYC to SJU on a repositioning. It was ok, not great--but the price on this cruise had us looking twice, debating the pros and cons and finally, we said ---WHY NOT? After our eventful stormy year (2 Cat 5 Hurricanes in September) in 2017, we now have the philosophy of "live life now, do not wait". So book it we did. Our goal was to keep it in-expensive....hey, that is why we can do 3 cruises in a year!!! We had an inside cabin (8019) and purchased the 5 -wine bottle package. Speaking of wine, that was the other nudge that found us on the Summit again--the MDR, The Cosmopolitan, is a Wine Spectator Award Winner! For us, this translates to a large selection of wines, many by the glass and education opportunities. This cruise did not disappoint in these areas. PRE-CRUISE

We flew into SJU the night before. We stayed at the AC Marriott in the Condado area. We are familiar with the area, and remember this hotel when it was the Radisson Ambassador--our first stay was 18 years ago for our honeymoon!!! The Marriott folks have done a great job in giving the building a face lift, more modern feel. The pool is up on the roof deck, with great views in the daytime and evening. Read more
