This cruise was its initial cruise from Shanghai to Sydney via Korea, Hong Kong, Nha Trang, Saigon, Singapore, Darwin, Brisbane to Sydney. As an experienced Princess cruiser I was very disappointed at the start, but over 22 days the service improved markedly. Primarily, the problem was the lack of experienced waiters and chefs, and inadequate numbers of staff overall. The ship had been crewed by many Chinese and they left the ship in Shanghai to be replaced by a very large number of inexperienced staff. The situation improved when more staff were loaded in Singapore. The food was very disappointing as it rarely matched the menu. Too often the food was poorly cooked or sometimes not cooked at all! I had never experienced a dining room on Princess where at times there were no supervisors present and no waiters - they were all out the back trying to find meals.
I wrote an extensive report on our experiences as the voyage progressed which was passed to Princess at the completion of the voyage. I hope they read my comments (and that of many others who also submitted reports) and have made significant improvements.
The cabins (mini suite) were OK but smaller than normal. The cabin staff were excellent, always courteous and helpful. I wrote much more on our experiences but readers can get the idea. I expect Majestic Princess will improve on all its Pacific voyages.
I enjoyed to walk around the city.
I returned to Saigon after nearly 50 years and was very impressed.
A great city to visit. Try the Indian curry houses - a wonderful experience.
worth a visit
