Initially I chose this cruise because I was looking for a last minute deal with certain date requirements ideally leaving from a departure point within an easy drive/train/bus of where I lived. So the Norwegian Escape fit the bill on all of those requirements, as well as the date I could sail within. Price was super reasonable due to a last minute booking. I went solo, and though there were not any studio cabins available, I was able to get a reasonable sailaway mini suite, and NCL picked the cabin, which, for me, ended up being a mini-suite with a large balcony on a great deck. Will talk more about the cabin in the cabin review section.
I wasn't specifically taking their cruise for the ports as I've been to Port Canaveral and Nassau, Bahamas many times. i was interested in going to and exploring Great Stirrup Cay, NCL's private island, and had a very nice time there. Tendering was not handled in the best way. I missed the first tender that I had a reservation for and didn't arrive until the 6th tender was leaving. I thought since my tender had been called that I would have been able to just walk-on and get over to the island. Unfortunately that wasn't the case and I was required to sit in the theatre for about 45 minutes before being able to board my tender and head to the island.
The ship overall was huge, and considered a top of the line class ship with all of the bells and whistles and amenities. My cabin was located on deck 8 forward, so I was right in the middle of the specialty restaurants, bars, lounges, the Atrium and the casino. I felt like it was the best location, even though it was loud at times as I was right above the Escape theatre and heard rehearsals or actual shows. I could also hear music from one of the upper decks and music from District Brewhouse. But I brought along several pairs of earplugs just in case! Never needed them as I'm a night owl and closed down many of the bars and entertainment centers on the ship. So by the time I got into bed, I was exhausted and fell asleep quickly. I also love the rocking on the ship when going to sleep.
Unexpectedly large cabin! Largest cabin I've ever had on any line! About a 110 square feet larger than a balcony cabin on Royal Caribbean. The balcony at 125 square feet was three times the size of a balcony I've had in the past. This cabin was starboard forward on the 8th deck and very convenient to many of the restaurants and entertainment on the ship. Cabin steward was excellent. Learned my name immediately and was great and helpful with anything I needed. Very friendly and enjoyed conversing with him when seeing him throughout the cruise.
Loved just hanging out on the island, observing the wildlife and dipping my toes in the water with a drink in my hand! Great place to walk around on the sandy beaches and paths. Wish we had longer there.
Got off to do some shopping for gifts to bring back for friends and dog sitters. Took a long walk on a beautiful day with a nice breeze. Saw lots of great things and picked up some bargains. Walked through the straw market but got accosted by the booth owners who tried to rip me off and not allow me to look for the items I wanted to. I felt like I was being grabbed by a used car salesman and quickly hightailed it out of there.
