We just did a 7 night southern Caribbean out of San Juan on the Summit. (Ports were San Juan, St. Thomas, St. Kitt’s, Antigua, St. Lucia and Barbados) Overall, we had a fantastic time. We enjoyed ourselves enough to book another cruise on the Summit for Fall 2019 going to the ABC islands.

The Summit is an older ship, and is actually being completely refurbished this winter. The decor is slightly dated, and some of the facilities were obviously older - like the speakers in our stateroom didn’t work at all and the bathroom was dated and just had a flimsy shower curtain that made it hard not to get water all over the floor.

One of the best things about the ship was the food! Breakfast at the Oceanview Buffet offered tons of variety. While the overall menu didn’t change, there were so many things to choose from that I never got bored. There was traditional American and English breakfast, carving stations, omelette stations, eggs Benedict station, hot cereal, cold cereal, waffles, pancakes and French toast with a variety of toppings... it seemed endless. When we couldn’t make it to the buffet, we ordered breakfast to the room and it was really nice as well, though not as much variety. Lunch was different every single day, but there were standards like the cheese and charcuterie every day. There was ice cream every day, pizza every day, pasta every day. We had dinner in the Cosmopolitan restaurant four nights, and tried all three specialty restaurants. We found no fault with the food at any of the dinner venues, but found service at the Cosmopolitan to be a bit hectic and disorganized. Service at all three specialty restaurants was nothing short of flawless.

Cabin Review

Deluxe Ocean View with Balcony 2C

Cabin 2C

We stayed in a veranda stateroom, and it was small but organized well. I’m glad we had a balcony for extra space. I also think there was a ton of storage that kept us from feeling cramped. I wish that they put real king size beds in the rooms, rather than pushing the beds together. I hated the “bump” in the middle of the bed! Why they don’t just put regular king size beds in the staterooms I don’t understand. It seemed like at least 80% of the guests were couples like us. The location of the room was perfect - midship on the middle deck. We could be anywhere in just a few minutes. We had a very sweet, polite and professional stateroom attendant in Kavish. He did a great job

Port Reviews

San Juan

We found the people of San Juan friendly and the Old Town area beautiful. El Yunque National Forest is also a must.
