I have cruised over 20x including carnival, royal and ncl. My new bride has never cruised and I wanted to try a cruise with her to see if she would like it and be ok with sailing with the idea we would book a Mediterranean cruise if she did enjoy cruising. I assured her these new large ships were safe and enjoyable, I explained the food was good etc.... Forward to the Sunshine, the most horrific cruise experience I have had in over 25 years of cruising. The food was sub par in the main dining room so I decided to try the steakhouse, I spent $100 for dinner and wine only to be served supermarket quality steak. The ship leaned and caused a news worthy panic, I understand electro-mechanical issues happen but the handling of the situation was deplorable. We were sitting in the piano bar drinking wine and trying our best to have a good time, the ship leaned, glassses and bottles fell from tables, people were screaming and we were not sure what was happening. My wife looked to me for guidance and I remained calm, I looked to the 2 crew members in the bar for guidance and 1 jumped up, grabbed his iPad and ran out, the other started to cry. At this point I became nervous and decided we should leave the area, my wife noticed all the panic and she started to panic. Another passenger told everyone to lean on the hallway wall, again no direction from the crew. When the ship leveled out we did not discover until the next day the cause of the incident, a circuit breaker for the stabilizer had tripped, it happens, crew members running and crying should never happen. I’m trying my best to convince my wife that cruising is not like this, the next morning we wake early and head to the serenity deck, blue sky, cup of coffee warm sun, finally relaxation.... at 8am the speaker behind our loungers starts blaring the ships events every 20 to 25 minutes, serenity?? More like insanity! The next day the cruise line applied a $ 50 pp credit to our sail account, the bottle of wine I lost in the wine bar was more than that combined with the realization my wife may never cruise again, a passion of mine that I want to enjoy with her makes me blame carnival for the worst cruise ever. When the ship reached the first stop some passengers needed medical care while others refused to reboard and flew home. I later found out they received a full refund and paid airfare with a $250 cruise credit, when I called the cruise line to demand a refund they explained that I did not fly home. I was never offered the option and a follow up call from a supervisor did not offer any compensation. I emailed the carnival media rep and the ceo, no one is responding, all I can do now is let everyone know how they treat their customers. Ironically this cruise put me at VIFP gold status, LOL,, don’t worry I will be taking my business elsewhere. The cruise line downplayed the incident but I’m sure they were not there to witness customers in wheelchairs or walking around with life jackets at dinner. My wife has had open heart surgery, we don’t need this aggravation. If you want details on the Sunshine please leave me a message but I have to recommend Royal or NCL!
