Our first cruise, river or otherwise. An excellent experience, even with the diversions caused by the water level being too low for the ship to traverse certain parts of the river. These diversions were handled professionally and as minimally disruptive as possible. We were bused from one ship to another identical ship, and our luggage just appeared in our stateroom on the new ship. They had staff available at the airport on arrival, and on departure, they had staff at the airport assisting in the checkin process, up to the security checkpoint. At the departure, we we considered a "group" and directed to the airline priority checkin line, even though our tickets were not of that class. Some optional tours had to be cancelled due to the low water, and we were refunded for them in the form of a real check (not future credit). Many shore excursions were offered in a variation of required exertion, so you take the easy one if you wanted, or one with a lot of walking and stairs if that is what you wanted. While some people prefer to venture out on their own, the "handholding" experience from Viking is exactly what WE were looking for.

Cabin Review

The cabin was entirely adequate for us. We were on the bottom deck, so no veranda. As you look out of the (sealed) window, your eyes are a couple of feet above the water line, and the floor is below the water line. Nothing fancy, but everything worked and was clean and was well maintained. Cabins include both North American 120V electric plugs as well as the two-prong 240V European plug. WiFi was a joke. The WiFi signal itself was fine, but the Internet connection behind it was abysmally slow. If I wanted to do anything, I had to use cell phone service. Since this is a river cruise, the ship does not have its own cell system; you just use whatever land-based cell coverage the ship is passing through.
