Since we are seasoned cruisers (over 50), we probably have different expectations and reasons for cruising. This was our 6th trip to Hawaii, and we have experienced many of the adventures available in Hawaii, so shore excursions were not a priority for us. However, we did take one in Ensenada, Mexico.

We flew to Los Angeles from Phoenix the same day and reserved a Supershuttle to take us to the pier. Easy, peasy and cheaper than taxis or Princess transfers. There were no other stops, since all passengers were going to the port.

The Star is similar to the Golden, very nice décor and except for only the aft elevators going to the three highest decks, it is easy to navigate. It is considered a medium sized ship in today’s menagerie of mega-ships. I thought it was just a good size and we never felt crowded. The décor is quite elegant. The atrium area covered 3 decks with scenic elevators and is generally the hub of things to do and places to go. If you are around the Atrium, depending on the deck, you can access a wine bar (Vines), the International Café, several other bars and the Internet Café and Library. A different level will find shops, casino and access to other entertainment and dining venues.

Cabin Review

Oceanview

Cabin OC

We had an ocean view cabin (P315) located on deck five, right next to the Art Gallery. This is a very nice location, mid to slightly forward location, quiet and nothing around to increase any noise levels. Fairly close to the laundromat, which, for longer cruises is a plus. Princess has updated their beds and they were marvelous; two different types of pillows and wonderful top quilts. There is plenty of closet space as well as shelf space and drawers. My only minor complaint was that the room steward was not allowed to provide wine glasses for us. We had to call room service and the line is often busy. It took two calls to get four wine glasses for our cabin.
