We live 2 hours from Galveston, so cruising is very convenient. I have wanted to sail on the Voyager since our first cruise several years ago when I saw it docked in Cozumel. The ship is very large and in beautiful shape. Embarkation was not too good. We had to wait a while due to "immigration problems" on the ship. Others said the ship got into port late, so I really don't know the reason. I really think there needs to be more signs posted to let you know what to do and where to go. Once we boarded, we went to eat in the Windjammer. Our room was almost ready when we boarded at 1 pm. We ate in the dining room every night except one, when we ate in the Windjammer. I did not find the food to be exceptional, but I guess it's kind of hard when you're feeding so many. Actually, I enjoyed the dinner the in the Windjammer a lot - it had a good selection and was quiet and peaceful. We did have excellent service in the dining room once we discovered Jose and Jessica. We picked anytime dining, which we enjoy, because we can sit by ourselves. I got steak 2 nights - requested medium-well - the first one mooed when I cut it, and the other one was tough and dry. My husband got pork one night and loved it. I'm not saying the food was bad though, just not great. The lobster was very small, very dry, and pretty tasteless. I was really looking forward to it too! The shows at night were all great. We especially enjoyed The Texas Tenors. The ice skating show was great too. Amazing what they can do on such a small rink! We were never, ever bored. There was always something to do. We even went to two movies. People who can't find something to do on this ship aren't looking hard enough! Obviously, the weather can't be controlled either. We had booked an excursion in Grand Cayman so we took a bus to our trolley ride. We did have to pay $5 each to get back to the ship (the bus would have taken us back for free but we wanted to spend some time shopping). I don't know why one of the reviewers had to pay $10. We had no problem whatsoever with the cab/bus....it was very nice. We were obviously disappointed that we were unable to go to Jamaica due to the wind, but we completely understood...again, it's not the ship's fault. So, we had 3 days at sea instead of 2. It was rainy some of the time and we even played a few games of putt putt in the rain and had fun! I'm the type of person to make the best of things, so I really, really enjoyed my cruise. Mike, the cruise director was a lot of fun. That man has a lot of jobs!!!!! We were late getting into Galveston because of heavy fog. We were doing self debarkation and would have been off in the first group at 7:30. We got off finally around 2:30. There was not much in the way of announcements to inform us of what was going on or where to go. We just stood in line for about 2 hours with 3,000 other people. It was pretty much a madhouse. I will say that was the worst part of the whole trip. I also disagree with another reviewer about the ages of the cruisers. Yes, there were a lot of older people on the ship, but also a lot younger than us and many in their 40's - 50's (I don't consider that old!) Overall, we really enjoyed our vacation and would cruise out of Galveston again, although we've been to all the ports they sail to already.

Cabin Review

Superior Oceanview Stateroom with Balcony

We had a balcony room (D2). It was pretty small, but fine for 2 people. There was plenty of storage and good closet space. The balcony was small, but adequate. The shower was tiny, but it worked! The only problem we had was the temperature. We like it cold, but didn't feel that the a/c worked very well. We also sleep with our ceiling fan on and the room got stuffy. Thank goodness we had a balcony because we slept with the door open! Next time I'm taking a small fan.
