  3. Viking Orion
Although we had been to the start and stop sites before several times, the intermediate stops in the Adriatic were new to us and quite interesting. The Orion is a lovely ship...just a few weeks old at our sailing so everything was impeccable. The service was probably the best ever experienced on a cruise, which was surprising given the newness of the vessel and crew. We found the casual dining to be more appealing than the main dining room, given the breadth of choices and the ability to sample many different tastes. Also, we made friends with servers there and made sure to it in their areas whenever possible. The entertainment was generally middling, typical cruise ship fare...although the professor who provided lectures on various topics was quite interesting and the planetarium was very novel and entertaining. Our younger son and his wife joined us for the second week from Venice to Athens and we all enjoyed ourselves immensely. The gym/spa area was the best we'd ever seen...loved the ice room and the steam rooms being so adjacent. And the common areas/lounges were quite comfortable, especially the Explorers' Lounge that was just a few steps from our cabin. The best indicator of our pleasure with the Orion is that we are booked for another sailing on it in the Orient in September of 2019...and are planning as well for a 2020 Viking combination river and ocean cruise in Scandinavia. Viking is, in our opinion, simply the best cruise line afloat.

Cabin Review

Cabin 8004?
The cabin was quite spacious, with more than adequate storage. The bathroom was modern, comfortable and very attractive. The bed was comfortable, the sitting area as well...and the balcony well positioned to see the sights of the cruise.
