Traveled with children

It was our family’s first cruise. My wife and I brought our three children 12, 7, and 3. I could not believe how easy and quick the embarkation process was. We never waited in a line once we parked our car. Understand it was an off season cruise but it was amazing. When we got to our cabin things were ok. There was a funky smell that came from the toilets that was not pleasant. The rooms were clean but showed signs of wear and tear. The walls had scratches, the shower had some rust in the corners, and the window looked rough as well. The whole boat in general had these same issues. Nothing major, nothing that made you stop and say they should have fixed that, but just small things that take away from the overall experience. Once we found our way around we enjoyed exploring. The elevator situation was a little annoying with a random elevator always being down and having to wait for what seemed to be an excessive amount of time. As far as food goes Guys burgers and the blue iguana burritos were great. The buffet and the formal dining were ok as far as food goes. My wife and I talked afterwards if we had gone to a restaurant at home and gotten the same food we wouldn’t be upset at all but probably not be in a rush to get back. The people in both the dining room and the buffet room were super super fun. Every morning we went to the buffet someone would stop by the table and just talk. They ask us about how our cruise was going, our plans for the day, if we needed anything. It seemed like they genuinely cared about our experience. The dining room was always fun. Super friendly and super accommodating. They aren’t bad dancers either. As far as the food goes though I think the best was brunch on our sea days. Food was exceptional and it was nice to sit back and be a little fancy on those days. I wish my kids would have enjoyed the kids clubs more. My oldest participated and had a ball. My younger two were just not ready to be away from us. The people in the club were super friendly and had lots of activities to do. Ports on this trip were ok. We were not a fan of princess cays. It seemed like we got dropped off on a crowded beach with nothing to do. Nassau was a ton of fun but we decided to take a tour from a guide we met on the street vice the expensive excursions the ship offered. Disembarkation was super easy. Carried our own bags and was off the ship, through customs, and back in my car 45 min after we left our room. Overall it was the people who make this cruise. The boat was fine and the food ok but I don’t think I would do another Carnival cruise if it wasn’t for all the people I interacted with over the course of our cruise who truly wanted to ensure we enjoyed ourselves.
