My family and I have been on about 10 cruises, mainly with Royal Caribbean, but we wanted to try a different cruise line to see what was out there. This was our first experience with NCL, and we definitely won’t be returning. First and foremost we booked a balcony room and the cruise ship decided that during our cruise would be a great time to do maintenance on the balcony. We could not use the balcony for three days because of the toxic paint fumes, and the fumes seeped into our room as well. We did enjoy the free style dining but the food and beverage staff was not very friendly. Our first night at dinner the waiter did not even introduce himself, just asked us what we want to order. The staff was simply not very engaging. We had multiple negative interactions with the staff throughout our cruise. The entertainment, mainly the shows, were mediocre and quite boring. They were definitely not Broadway quality. We did enjoy visiting Costa Maya and Cozumel, there were some really good options for shore excursions. However the ports at Honduras and Belize were quite boring.
