The cruise started off with everyone dealing with flooding in Galveston prior to boarding the ship. The initial plan was delayed departure at 7pm instead of 4 due to many guests being unable to get to terminal. We ended up not leaving until around 9:15 pm and no word was given as to why we were delayed longer.
With all that said, our time for check in was 1130 and it went smoothly and we were onboard by 12:20. We did not purchase Faster To The Fun and I'm glad we didn't. We went down to our room and our luggage was already outside. They were not finished with cleaning, so we dropped off carry on bags and headed to grab lunch and do a tour. When we came back to the room around 2, we were able to go in and get settled.
The room was cleaned daily and were always given plenty of towels, guess they saw that we had to use them all to mop up the water in the bathroom floor. We did not get turn down service every night, I think only 3 nights which was not a big deal to us. The service all over the boat was great, everyone we came across worked very hard, so please tip accordingly--they deserve them!
Our Ocean view stateroom was adequate size for 2 adults, but would be cramped for any more than that. There was plenty of closet space and storage capability for all the over packing we did! Our large luggage fit well underneath the bed. The room décor is dated and needs updating. The furniture is worn and again needs updating. The fridge barely kept our drinks cool. The mattress and pillows were very comfortable and the bed actually had a nice thicker comforter. The main issue with the room was the lack of adequate A/C. I requested a fan within the first few minutes of entering the room. The A/C actually went out for several hours on day 2. Fortunately we were on the way out for activities. Our shower was very slow to drain and flooded the bathroom with every shower. Many times the whole deck would smell of sewer and occasionally the rooms had the same odor.
The best thing about Galveston are the many wonderful seafood restaurants! Gaidos is a favorite!
Cozumel was so hot and humid, like it always is! This port would not be so bad if it weren't for all the shop owners, etc trying to pull you in their shops and chasing you down the street to rent a car, take a tour, and the list goes on.
