Carnival Vista Cruise Review by uscggirl135
- Sail Date: October 2018
- Destination: Western Caribbean
- Cabin Type: Cloud 9 Spa Balcony
We just sailed out of Galveston on the Vista, 10/14. For the Vista being two years old, the ship was in rough condition. We had a spa balcony cabin, several things in the room were broken. My husband worked out and explained to me that several pieces of equipment were broken and that the treadmills are in pretty rough shape as well.
As far as spacing, it was very easy to get turned around on this ship, things weren’t laid out very well. We had a couples a massage and through out the massage, we could hear weights being dropped (my husband explained that the squat machine is literally up against that wall). This unfortunately took away from what should have been a rather relaxing massage. We also noticed that the atrium seems much smaller on this ship, I’m not sure if in the past the glass elevators made the atrium seemed bigger or if there is genuinely less space. Regardless the atrium lacked the flow that we have become accustomed with in the past.
I read several reviews on the Vista before we left and one of the biggest ones was about the food. Now, I can’t say for the lunch or dinner buffet. The breakfast buffet was very good. The brunch and main dining room was excellent. The Farenheit 555, Jiji’s, and the Seafood Shack, I would recommend a hundred times over. I also saw a lot of complaints about dress code, we watched and on the Vista it doesn’t seem like they do any sort of reprimanding for not following it. In the past we have seen people turned away for wearing shorts or jeans on formal night. So, if your one to get upset about this try not to pay attention because they apparently don’t enforce the dress code very vigorously on this ship.
The staff was as always amazing! They go above and beyond for everything. We had Yulianto, Elvin and Gede in the dining room and Kadek for our room steward. I actually mentioned to Kadek at one point that I missed getting a towel animal one night, he apologized and when we came back that evening he had made up two.
We booked a balcony room on the spa deck this time around and we were kind of disappointed with it. As stated before we had a few items in our room that were broken (a drawer slider and a cabinet hinge). We were also positioned across the hall from 2 different service rooms. This meant that different staff were opening and closing those doors all the time, all hours of the night too. So we could be sleeping and be startled awake at 2 in the morning because someone got into that service room. We also had the most door-slamenest neighbors we’ve ever had before and they didn’t seem to care about that one bit. But being on the spa deck was not necessarily relaxing and we probably wouldn’t do it again. We would however consider purchasing access to the thermal suite because that was very lovely.
We did have horrible weather, so our execursion in Belize was canceled and we didn’t even get to make call in Roatan. Carnival of course refunded our excursions and then redocked again in Cozumel. I can’t blame them for the weather and I feel like they did their best to work around it. They were really quick to put together a list of events once we missed Routan and they made sure that that day was still a blast. Our first stop in Cozumel we did Catameran Sail, Snorkel and Beach get away. It was beautiful, we loved it and would recommend it.
Now to amenities, we loved the water slides, so much fun. We rode the sky ride and did the rope course, both of those were novel and I would recommend doing them once. The SkyRide did have a pretty long line but they moved it rather quickly. My husband said that he’d do them both again for sure. We tried to watch the imax ( they are playing venom and first man) We bought tickets for Venom and when we went to watch it, no one was there. We waited around and then ended up asking and apparently they had canceled the movie and didn’t say anything. The sports square was a lot of fun, we played corn hole, pool, mini golf, fooseball and the bowling game. We also enjoyed the arcade.
I can’t say enough about the alchemy bar, shake spot and java cafe. Denis, Ezter and Joe made these spots. Denis was great at the alchemy bar and went above and beyond to bring me new drinks. Ezter and Joe take a lot of pride in putting out quality coffee and it was excellent.
One note my husband made was that it felt as though the boat didn’t have the air flow of the other boats. He said that areas of the boat would get very warm (the lido deck inside dining areas for example) and they never really cooled down. He said he remembered the past ships feeling comfortable anywhere you were on the boat and that this one just always seemed to be uncomfortably warm.
All in all, we had a good time but we were very underwhelmed with this particular ship. We have always enjoy cruising and will do so again. We prefer the Dream class ships and would not pay the pricing again for the Vista.

Belize CityWe only got to see the shopping center in Belize because of excursions being canceled. Go outside to shop! We bought a chess set for our oldest son, some guy was asking $250 for it, bought it outside for $40.View All 2,330 Belize City Cruise Port Reviews

Deluxe Sail, Snorkel and Beach PartyLoved this excursion, snorkeling was beautiful. Staff was extremely friendly and kept the drinks coming. We didn’t go more than a few minutes without someone bringing us a drink on the sail boat. Beach was beautiful and fun, our kids would have loved it.View All 74 Deluxe Sail, Snorkel and Beach Party Reviews
My only complaint with this excursion, I paid for a Henna Tattoo. Gentlemen charged me $40 for a pretty small tattoo ( my fault should have asked for a price when I picked) he told me I only had to wait 20 min before it got wet and it would last two weeks. Tattoo was gone next day! I was very disappointed.
