I wanted something different than the usual Caribbean cruise, and this was an excellent choice. Every day was another spectacular scenic view and/or interesting town or small city. I highly recommend a Norwegian fiord cruise once in your life. The NCL Jade is a very nice ship, which looks new because of it's recent refurbish. You might expect one rough sea day, as this is the North Sea after all. Very convenient start of the trip from Hamburg Germany, only one day away from the start of the ports of call. The weather in August was about half foggy/rainy and half sunny. The temps were 55 to 70 ish. I packed a light winter down parka which compresses down to a very small package and I am glad I brought it, I used it many tour days. I did not have any Norwegian Kroner and it was no problem, all vendors seemed to take a visa card, even for a cup of coffee. I did have some Euro's for Germany which I am glad I had for cash transactions.

Cabin Review

Mid-Ship Oceanview Picture Window

Cabin OB

This cabin is conveniently located on the outside of the ship, deck 5, next to the elevators. Also, next to the deck 5 outside door access (which is virtually never used), so no neighbor on one side. The hallway traffic was very quiet on my cruise, which I was worried about.

The cabin layout is the standard outside picture window layout. I cannot recommend this particular cabin however, for the following reason....... On deck 4 (directly below this room) is the outside door access. This is the door that the pilot ship generally boards the pilot from, and that often occurs about 4am in the morning. It takes about 2 minutes for the crew to open the outside door, with the associated whirring of hydraulic pumps and clanking of safety chains, etc. right under your bed. No way you can sleep through this. Also, a flood light to illuminate the pilot boarding area shines right above your window. So each morning this happened, I just watched the pilot boat board the pilot out of the window, then went back to bed. It is also the door for starboard side gangway at ports of call, and the door for tendering. If you want to watch the pilot board the boat 20 feet away, great cabin, otherwise you may want to get a different cabin assignment.

Generally love the Jade, and the Norwegian fiord trip was excellent !
