First cruise and chose a mini one to see if I would enjoy life on sea. Upgraded to a Princess Suite which was a lovely surprise. Large spacious room with sofa and coffee table. Fridge stocked with non alcholic and alcholic drinks. Large bottle of water $5 and beers $6. So not cheap. Service added on top. Bathroom had Penhaligion's toiletries which was a nice touch. Dressing gowns, slippers, hairdryer. Lots of wardrobe space and hangers plus safe. The staff are exceptional. The ship is huge so it involved lots of walking. The public rooms are big and spacious. The Queens Grill is lovely, albeit quiet. Great menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner. (Although private parties in the adjoining restaurant meant we had to walk up and down and around to get to the Grill, rather than take normal route). The Kings Court is very busy and noisy and it is not easy to grab a table at lunchtime. Lots of choice available. Never ate in the Brittania but looked good with a great atmosphere. Afternoon Tea in Grills Lounge was nice but quite rushed. Waiters seem to give 2 finger sandwiches, to small cakes, one scone and tea and it is over. The Commodore is very relaxing for after dinner drinks. Pianist every evening. Shops cater for the affluent with a box of Cunard biscuits $20. Entertainment was mediocre. Dancers one night seemed to be members of crew, acrobatics another which were quite boring, The Beatles tribute were good and Walk Like A Man (Frankie Valli tribute) excellent. It was a shame that all theatre shows only lastes an hour. Karaoke in the pub was just that. There were talks on the Queen Mary 2, The Titanic and the Malaysian plane that crashed. Latter two subjects bit depressing. Queen Mary talk interesting. Library beautiful. The decor of the ship was amazing with beautiful bronze wall coverings and art. The trip was great fun, although nothing much going on in Hamburg. My only criticism about the trip would be poor communication. There was no clear information prior to boarding the ship about boarding or sale time. There was no full daily itinerary prior to trip (received this information daily on board), there was a black tie Gala nite, yet I was informed prior to trip that dress code for all 4 nights was smart attire. We were not given any clear information on what our upgrade included. Tea and coffee free if self served otherwise charged. I think it would be really helpful if once on board, there could be a talk for first time cruisers with general information about how it all works.
