This was our very first-time cruising with NCL on the Breakaway. We have cruised nine times before with other cruise lines and we must say that we were disappointed in quite a few things bit were pleased with some others. We were quite displeased of the lack of communication in regards to the cancellation of three ports of call. Even though, weather was the reason, things were not explained clearly to passengers. Since we had three ports cancelled from the itinerary, we expected NCL to compensate the passengers in some ways. Why couldn’t they offer free admission to Margaritaville or the Ice Bar? Why did they not offer up a free specialty dining coupon? They didn’t even have any special back up entertainment. All passengers should have been offered a good faith discount coupon for a future cruise. ( most passengers probably would not use them anyways) We were pleased with our large window family room. It was very spacious, comfy and had a large bathroom. No complaints about the room. We felt that bars were understaffed at peak times and it took quite a while to get served. The Manhattan dining room was lovely but so very slow in service. It took us two and a half hours to have dinner. We also felt the food for dinner was fair at most. Our party of four didn’t rave once about any of our nine dinners during the cruise. The main atrium was way too small for the public dance lessons and game shows. It was elbow to elbow with no place to sit or even watch the activities. Bliss dance club played some great music, but once again there was hardly anywhere to sit and an even smaller dance floor. Syd Norman’s club played some good music, but once again hard to get to the bar and was not big enough for the crowd. O’Sheehan’s Bar/Grill was a favorite of ours. Great wings/burgers and other snacks were delicious. The bartenders and servers were extra hard working whenever we visited the pub. The few times we visited the buffet, we were pleased with the food choices but once again it was very challenging to find seating. Due to the inclement weather the outside seating was never an option. We were very disappointed that NCL failed to offer nightly comedy club shows that we enjoyed on other cruise lines. Overall, we can’t say we would recommend NCL for a nine-day cruise with so many sea days. The public spaces and entertainment offerings were subpar for the large crowds of passengers on board.

Cabin Review

Family Oceanview Stateroom with Large Picture Window
Cabin O1 5768
The cabin was very comfy and large enough for the two of us. The bathroom was quite large with the double faucets and lots of storage space. Having a tub was nice but it is a very high step to get into the shower bc of the tub. There were two closets which was quite sufficient.
We were quite pleased with the location of this room. It was an easy access to the elevators.
