First of all this was my 19th cruise, (past cruises with Crystal Cruises, Royal Viking, Carnival RC, Disney, Princess and Holland America) and this was my 1st cruise with NCL, I choose this cruise because of the dates and the itinerary (first mistake).
This cruise was a once in a life opportunity for us, working and saving money for years to travel to visit the Baltic, and NCL full of lies and disorganization took away to us 3 out of 5 countries to visit.
Me and my wife arrived a day before to Copengahen , we stayed at the Marriott, nice and hotel and a beautiful city, we did de hop on hop off bus and walk all the city around, we went next day Sept 23 to the port to embark at 12 pm, the process was fast and easy; at that time NCL gave us a letter informing that we would not sail away, that day so we will be at port a whole day till 6 pm next day (Sept 24), they said that was because of the weather. If they knew days before that we were not going to Germany, why they didn’t communicate the passengers (emails) about the changes of plans and we will decide to have more time sightseeing in the city.
The ship was nice, huge and my first experience in a cruise with more than +2000 passengers, we couldn’t go to our cabin so we walked around the ship, all the outdoor entertainment was impossible to use because the ship is no for cool weather, incredible NCL doesn’t have a roofed pool (second mistake), so all the water slides, pools, hot tubs, mini golf, climbing wall, exterior bars, etc. were empty and all the passengers were inside the ship.
After 1 day delay we depart to Tallin, Estonia, a nice small city we tour around it and went back to the ship at 4 pm ready por departing, it was supposed to sail at 4.30 at 5.30 the captain inform us that we will not depart till the afternoon on the next day, he mentioned that was also because a bad weather in the Baltic, so we where stocked in Tallin a small city already visited with no many things to do or visit, one more full day. While it was supposed to be a rough and complicated weather to sail in Baltic sea, we watched every half hour ferries sailing away and coming to port from the Baltic sea, I am not an expert in navigation but if a dozens of ferries can go to Baltic sea, a huge, modern and better ship could go!!!, we depart Tallin with a delay of 1 day and the next day with a delay of 3 hours.
Then we went to St Petersburg, supposed to arrive at 7 am but we arrive at 9 am, 2 hours delay. This was one of the worst things in the cruise, the NCL appalling and terrible organization to disembark in Russia, never seen a cruise passenger treated this way, with shouting, no information and disrespect to the people that paid a lot of money to do this cruise.
After visiting the great city of St Petersburg (not in a NCL tour thanks god), it was with Classic Tours what we highly recommend, was a nice tour guide and excellent visit of 2 days to the city, NCL informed to us that we were not going to Finland and Sweden, also because of the time to get to Copenhagen, that was bad news for everybody, we knew that one of the 2 ports could ve visited with plenty of time to get to Copengahen, so NCL just fool around with their customers. We are not dumbs or new in cruise, we perfectly know when NCL is lying to us.
So, there we were 2 days at sea to Copenhagen, wit ha ship always crowded inside because it was cold outside, with a lack of entertainment and with the majority of the passengers angry with NCL.
The room steward Marvin, the bar tender Edgar and Juancho were the best of the cruise, excellent service and very professional, hope the y can teach their captain and the rest of the crew how to treat customers.
About the food and dining experience, it was below average, a lot of ground beef in the menus, not a lot of steaks or pork, the Buffett was impossible, always crowded and it was very difficult to find and empty table, we paid two specialty restaurants, Moderno churrascaria, a Brazilian steakhouse, didn’t worth the money, all the meats were almost the same with the same marinated sauce, lots of garlic and that’s it, also we went to Bistro, French restaurant, and the scargots were half cut hahaha so half a dozen were really 3 scargots, that’s amazing in a cruise and in a restaurant you pay for it they serve hat way!!
In resume, NCL never tried to compensate in any way the passenger’s dissatisfaction, they treated us like dumbs or as if we didn’t pay anything for the cruise, NCL AND THE CAPTIAN LIED TO US, and also they make money from us while they were laughing of our situation.
I will never go back to NCL and also I am going to tell all the people I know to never take a NCL cruise.
From NCL, we never receive any apologize or a simple we are sorry, I am aware that weather some time affects cruises and plans, but my dissatisfaction was because of the lies, the lack of communication to us and the way they treated us, we do not deserve it!!!
Cabin was OK, clean and well designed, we recieve an excellent service from Marvin our room steward, the balcony is a joke, very small
