While I can venture to say that I have been on better ships, it doesn't mean that this ship didn't serve the purpose of what was needed! First and foremost, I prefer a Guys Burger Joint Burger over a regular Lido deck burger! This is included in your price which is great. Additionally, the Blue Iguana bar that serves "Chipotle Style" taco bowels and burritos are great! The Captain's Suite needs it's own review, which I will give, but for the most part I am happy with the investment we made to treat ourselves with this suite for our milestone. We are Gold members, but received a lot of Diamond and Platinum benefits as a result of the Port Side suite we stayed in! The islands were wonderful! The time of year we went and the porting times made the weather perfection to walk around and tour! I have been to San Juan, Puerto Rico a few times and really didn't think I'd appreciate any more the island had to offer and was surprised that I bypassed a BOATLOAD of fun with Senor Frogs! The ONLY thing I will say is I thought the Cruise Director wasn't as visible and a bit dry for my taste, however that is a totally subjective remark! Different Strokes for Different Folks and according to DISC Assessment, I'm an "I" personality, so Dustin needed a few more gestures, exclamation points, and overall extraness to win my affection! I didn't mind those things too much because of the nature of our trip and our desire to take in our Captain's Suite as much as possible! I didn't love the pastries or cookies, they are always seriously dry, but the other foods on the Lido and in the restaurants were amazing!

Captain's Suite

Cabin CS

The Captain's Suite ranges in price, but we were lucky in finding it for less than 6k! At that price point, everything was well worth it! The benefit of the picture windows is something you MUST SEE AND EXPERIENCE for yourself to fully appreciate! You get your own Jacuzzi tub, but trying to fit two average sized adults will be a tight squeeze, but not impossible! The balcony was surprisingly open. You don't have much privacy, your neighbors and people above you are constantly looking straight onto your balcony. If you are not shy or if you had no plans to do anything "interesting" on the balcony, you won't mind. If you covet your privacy, you will mind a great deal. There's complimentary food and perks being delivered to your room twice a day every day and if you are not Diamond or Platinum level, you will receive quite a few of their perks (including a bag of laundry!). The only Perk I'd add to the Captain's Suite is One VIP Night at the Punchliner where you get a reserved booth and a complimentary pitcher. I'm sure Suite guests in other cruise lines may experience better perks (which I'd love to hear about). I'm always looking for ways to expand the perk.

Port Reviews

Miami

We did not take a formal excursion booked through Carnival, we explored on our own! We stayed at the Conrad Miami and went to South Beach for a Day to Night evening of extreme fun! Explore!

Grand Turk

You can get in the water right in front of the boat and take some of the most incredible pictures! There are fish that swim right past you in the water! Do not let them get you about the beach chairs and umbrellas. If you end up being the first ship to make it to Grand Turk, look for the green umbrellas as those are free! The ones on the shoreline in front of the water that are different colors usually comes at a cost! Rum Punch is 2 for 5 (small cups, but good punch!). The people on the island are ready to help you with whatever you need from a recreation standpoint. The time of day is 4:20 consistently (AM oR PM!) and you can smell it in certain areas! If you are not on the shore lounging or frolicking in the water, there is a fun place with food and DJ behind you plus access to WIFI!

San Juan

I love all things San Juan! The spirit and atmosphere of this Port is nothing short of amazing! Especially coming upon one year of their hurricane survival, there is still kind greetings, people with a joy to dance, create, play instruments and sing! I danced on the street to a Saxophone player, a guitar player, a beautiful singer! I came into Señor Frogs and danced again to awesome music. I flew a kite in the most picturesque sky and I talked to many people in their storefronts about their heritage, their dreams, and their lives. San Juan is incredible.

St. Thomas

We had the benefit of having a friend who lived on the island! He was our guide to look at Real Estate, beautiful views on the hilltop, authentic Oxtails with Pepper Sauce, a tasting of 20 year aged Rum, and a great look into a Chicken and Bowling establishment! Pure White Hennessy is $40-45 a bottle and you can purchase 5 bottle per person. We also had the benefit of going by the beach and watching a guy prepare for a wedding right by the water! Gorgeous place!

Amber Cove (Puerto Plata)

Access to WIFI for the day for a fee at the resort or be a patron at the SKY BAR and get access to the Wifi for free! Take picture and video of the SkyBar from the Boat and then take a picture of the boat from the Sky Bar! The comparison is wild! This is more of a manufactured port and not a true representation of DR in my opinion, but still nice. Just like in any new city/state you know there's tourist areas and there's authentic areas and while this is less authentic, the people are beautiful, the scenery is gorgeous, and the drinks continue to pour! You can take a lot of great pictures at Amber Cove, there's covered bikes to take you where you need to go. You will be shocked to see them wearing long sleeves in such heat, but you will quickly learn if you BURN! Don't BURN, be really covered because the Amber Cove sun is no JOKE!
