We are Diamond cruisers on Royal Caribbean. Therefore we were able to join Celebrity as Elite Captain Club members. So we wanted to try Celebrity to see how it compares to Royal Caribbean. We were extremely disappointed. The Celebrity Infinity has the potential to be a beautiful ship. Unfortunately it has not been properly maintained since it was launched in 2001. The ship looked drab and it never smelled fresh. The service in the dining room was the worst we have ever experienced, partly because there were not enough waiters to properly serve the guests. The food was bland, the selection was limited, especially the breads, and dinner took almost two hours every night - a real endurance contest. The buffet options were dismal - don't even think about eating any breads, pastries or donuts. We experienced raw sewer smells in our cabin on three nights which woke us from a deep sleep. Our cabin steward was one of the nicest stewards we have encountered. Our cabin was very nice, though dated and in dire need of a refurbish. We will not cruise on Celebrity again.
The cabin was very spacious. The bed was comfortable. The air in the room was never fresh, even with the balcony door open. The layout of the bathroom was very nice. The couch was only big enough for one person to sit, so my wife sat on the couch and I sat in the desk chair or on the balcony. There were only two power outlets in the cabin. The cabin showed many signs of wear and tear. However our cabin steward was excellent!
We rode the shuttle, $5 each, thru downtown. We enjoyed the Maritime Heritage museum, one of the stops on the shuttle.
The ship was experiencing maintenance problems with the tender boats and we were delayed by almost 45 minutes departing on our tour. Thus we were rushed. We booked a tour to Solvang. It was nice, but not worth the long bus ride to and from.
We walked down to the Monterey Bay Aquarium. We would have appreciated a shuttle, but none was available. The aquarium was excellent - one of the highlights of our cruise.
We walked down the waterfront and enjoyed the downtown area.
The hotels in downtown Vancouver are extremely expensive. The onboard experience was excellent!
The disembarkation process was excellent. We rented a car and spent 3 nights in San Diego. We enjoyed the San Diego Zoo, the Midway Aircraft Carrier Museum and the Old Towne area.
