A last minute (under 30 days out), this was a new experience for us.
Our pre cruise stay was at the Miami Me which is located not far from the pier and Bayside Market. This hotel is high tech, modern, and provides amazing service. Guests are welcomed with a mimosa or glass of champagne, and the views of the port. The free downtown monorail is just at the end of the block.
This was our fourth Celebrity sailing, but our first time on the Equinox with her fabulous captain. Capt. Kate is without a doubt the most personable, visible and engaging captain we have experienced. Kate's pride and joy in her job is evident to all who sail with her. The Equinox herself is definitely ready for "revolutionizing". Don't get me wrong, she is a beautiful ship... just ready for her makeover. A lot of the seating in public areas is broken down and no longer comfortable.
Originally concerned as according to deck plans, this cabin shows as being right next to bar. In actuality, the cabin is located right next to the dishwashing station for the bar. Much to our surprise, we did not notice much noise from inside the cabin! (One night did hear sounds like cabinets opening and closing, similar to cabin neighbors opening and closing doors or closet) The view from the cabin window was a lovely close to the water perspective. For two people, there is more than ample space and storage available. An added bonus is that you are steps away from the grand foyer, elevators, main dining room as well as access to customer services and the gangway. At night when ship's entertainment would take place staff would close main corridor doors to provide additional acoustic barrier. The only negative was our cabin steward was actually assigned to the opposite side of the ship. (with the exception of the 4 cabins at our end of the passageway) As a result she did not ever seem to get our dining time straight and would want to do the evening turndown while we were getting dressed for dinner. We would definitely book this cabin again as it was a great value.
We stayed at the Miami ME, which is very conveniently located on Biscayne Blvd. With a beautiful view of the port it is an ideal pre or post cruise option.
A beautiful and modern port...for those who like to gamble...the casino is right there as you leave the pier. The Dutch history and influence is very much evident in the architecture, food and shopping.
Another beautiful island with glorious snorkeling opportunities. We opted to go to Cocoa Beach, which is a public beach approximately a mile or so from the pier. Easily reached by taxi it is an exceptional spot to go and swim or snorkel. There are rocks that must be navigated to enter the water, so the use of water shoes is highly recommended. The variety and number of fish we saw was incredible...even saw an octopus!
Our visit to Key West was also on a Sunday, so many of the bars and smaller shops were not open, or did not open till after noon. We had been to Key West before so we just enjoyed the walk around town.
We had not arranged an excursion for this port at all, and did not realize until the day of that it was Sunday...almost everything was closed. We walked around some and headed back to the ship to enjoy lunch and the pool... As did quite a few of our fellow passengers.
