We wanted to see Portland and Bar Harbor, Maine; and, New Brunswick and Halifax, Canada. It was also an easy trip from our home area (NYC) and we previously cruised on the Escape which we liked. I have Celiac Disease and therefore cannot eat any Gluten. The restaurant Maitre D's everywhere were excellent in watching out for my Gluten Free food. In the buffet, the servers were trained to change their gloves. My food was taken from closed trays in the back or specially made in a safe place to avoid cross contamination. Their GF pizza was the best and I had them add veggies to it. The GF french fries were fresh and excellent, but the Veggie Burger was dry and I couldn't eat it. Gluten free was always fine; however, the food quality in general is hit or miss. It used to be much better!! My husband and I found the chicken was dry sometimes, bland/lack of seasoning, too much pepper, no baked potato; sometimes the meals were tasty. The French restaurant, Le Bistro had very delicious meals! We didn't try the others. We also took some tours sold by NCL and they were very good, except for the hop on hop off bus in Halifax because it was overbooked by other cruise ships and there was so much traffic from the G7 Summit. However, when I complained to the Cruise Excursion desk, they refunded me 25%, apologized and said they would put less people on it next time. This was the first trip to these ports for Norwegian.
