Had a great first cruise experience. Appreciated round-trip from Seattle, so we did not need to endure the long flight from Anchorage, but then missed out on additional sightseeing of Hubbard Glacier. From East Coast and too tired to explore Seattle the day before which was disappointing. Embarkation was VERY quick and easy. Arrived before suggested time and allowed right on board. Staff was amazing. I have never been so well taken care of. Food was a good variety and quality. We paid for very little extras only 3 drinks between two people the whole week. Did our own port transportation and touring. Did not buy expensive photos at $25/picture. Did not go to specialty restaurants. I was worried that we would not have a good time if we weren't willing to shell out on extras, but it was still fabulous. We are not fancy travelers though. I packed my own hot cocoa packets. Hot tea was a decent variety in buffet. Hubby was fine with free coffee. I was a bit disappointed with on-board entertainment - some of it was poor quality but still ok. Only had an inside stateroom, but was fine for our needs. Decent storage space and super comfortable bed and pillows. Buffet was often busy and decks were crowded on Glacier Bay day. I know upselling can be an issue, but I never felt pressured. I said "no thanks" and was left alone.
Ports: Juneau - had friend living there, so private tour guide. Did Mendenhall hike to Nugget Falls, Shrine of St Terese, Mount Roberts tram. All great activities.
Skagway - FAVORITE! Rented a car from Avis and drove to Lewes Lake in Yukon. Enjoyed touring at our own pace, though did not get commentary of tour guide. BC and Yukon were the most stunning part of the trip. Had time to explore town, but only went to Gold Miners cemetery and waterfall there. Cemetery cheesy, but waterfall absolutely stunning.
Quiet stateroom with other staterooms above and below. Appreciated being close to central staircase/elevators which made for quick travel to most public areas. Steward Danilo was excellent.
Worth a trip into Yukon whether by train, bus, or rental car. Absolutely stunning.
