We chose the Viking Ocean Cruise because we had sailed with Viking two previous times on their longboat river cruises. We were very happy with our Viking experience on both of those so decided that an ocean cruise with them would be perfect for our 50th wedding anniversary.
We chose to sail on the trip which was Oslo to London in June of 2018 but were asked by Viking to change to July of 2018 which not only led to an upgrade from a big stateroom to a huge Explorer Suite, but also gave us many additional perks. The change of dates brought us into London, sailing up the Thames and on to Scotland, the Orkney Islands, the Shetland Islands and then Norway. We really appreciated the tours of the Scottish venues with their stark vistas and charming people.
The time spent sailing through the northern regions of Norway was indescribable with the complimentary tours, the gorgeous towns and fjords, and the charming shipboard ambiance. Viking does not waste ones time with dancing girls and casinos. We liked having the lectures on the history and geology of the areas we visited. The food in the restaurants was great, and one cannot say enough about the staff and crew who took care of us. The train trip on our last Sunday which took us from Bergen to Oslo was very nice.
A lovely huge suite with a living room, bedroom, bath with double sinks, walk in shower with deep tub, and a walk in closet. The veranda wrapped around the aft end of the ship and included a table, chairs, chaises, and a view.... The mini bar was refreshed twice per day and the laundry was complimentary too. Since we were upgraded we didn't pay extra for any of this and we are going to find it difficult to go to our regular accommodations on our next cruise.
A great excursion to the stones and Stromsness with a lovely guide.
We so enjoyed the children's dancing with the Hardanger Fiddle...
