Having just retired, I thought it would be nice to begin the next chapter of my life with a cruise with my wife. This was our second leaving from New Orleans and tenth in all. NCL has ALOT of catching up to do with regard to SERVICE. There just isn't any of that on the Spirit. We didn't ever meet our room stewart. The food was as average as I can fathom. And the cabins are small in comparison to the other ships on which we've sailed. Oh, and the TVs really are 12 inch. Bring binoculars just in case you want to watch some TV.

Our first port of call was Costa Maya with a two reef snorkeling trip. The vis was over a hundred feet, but unfortunately the reef is in bad shape from a recent hurricane. Our dive guide, who tried to be more macho than supervisor, put a novice snorkeler in a fair amount of danger having her drag herself over the top of an exposed section of reef with 3-4 foot seas. She was in tears and for good reason as she got some dandy cuts in the process. She wouldn't continue her snorkeling after that and the dive guide had her fill out a release form when we got ashore. The tour operator should chum the water with this guy. I am a PADI certified scuba diver and this guy is DANGEROUS.

Guatemala...don't get off the ship. Not safe. Can you say MACHINE GUNS? Oh yeah! They're EVERYWHERE.
