My husband has always wanted to see The Hermitage in St. Petersburg, Russia. We have never cruised before, and when our friend said she found the perfect cruise for us that included Russia, we said ok. We started booking this cruise through a good friend Kathy Geremia (Bullfrog Travel) two years in advance, and had no idea what it would be like. We traveled to Bergen a day in advance of August 7th, and when we took a walk to the port where The Viking Sea was docked we were speechless at its size! The next day we boarded this ship, and everyday for 14 days, the experience took our breath away and exceeded our every expectation. The Viking Sea is a 5 star floating hotel, with 400 staff who work to make everyday on board a wonderful experience. The 7 different restaurants are all excellent in their own way, and we were never disappointed at the quality of the food or the excellent service in each one. I have many food allergies and food sensitivities and from day one the staff knew of them all and prepared food that was incredible, and kept me from any dietary problems! All of our excursions were run with precise timing (especially since they were moving 930 people around daily) and the guides were very informative. The staff on this cruise was exceptional! They knew our names, always had a smile, and nice things to say to each guest. They made everyone feel special. Everyone worked hard to make this cruise wonderful for everyone on board. We set the bar extremely high for our first cruise, and will highly recommend this Viking Ocean cruise. It truly was the trip of a lifetime! Thank you Viking for creating wonderful memories for my husband and I.

Cabin Review

Cabin 3085
Having never cruised before this we were worried about room size, as I am clausterphobic but the room was perfect, and the bathroom was also bigger than we expected. The shower stall was good size, and there were many drawers, and shelves for our things. The closet was big, and had more than enough hangers. The bed was king size and very comfortable. Our stewards Johnny and Tiger kept our room clean, and always greeted us with smile, and a great attitude everyday. We were pleased with the movie selections, and the personalized itinerary on the tv everyday. They listed every port with a weather forecast everyday. It was also good to be able to dial up your account on a daily basis. There were also talks televised on the ports, and excursions for the whole trip. I don’t think we could have asked for a better room experience.

  • Gdansk (Warsaw)
What a sobering experience of one of the most horrific times in history. Our guide was incredible, and said no matter how many times she goes through this camp it still makes her sad, and wanting to make sure that these people and the horror of this time is never forgotten. We then walked around Gdańsk and enjoyed all the beautiful architecture, and lunch at a good restaurant. What a romantic and fun city. Loved both experiences.

  • Berlin
We did the 3 hour train ride into Berlin and then the bus tour of the city. Our guide was great, had pictures of the city during the war, after the war and during the Hitler era. It was chilling to see bullet holes still in buildings, and the remains of the Berlin Wall. The only problem was not enough time in such a historic city.

We booked this tour upon reading reviews from a woman on line who took this tour with her mother a year ago. Upon starting emails with Katherine of Anastasia Travel she asked what we wanted to see,and booked a two day tour that gave us an incredible experience in St Petersburg! This tour started with our beautiful and extremely knowledgeable guide Anna meeting us at passport control, and taking us to a beautiful black Mercedes to meet our exceptional driver Slava. He navigated the city for two days, and got us from spot to spot on time and safely. We took a tour of the city with Anna telling us about all the buildings along the way, stopped at many interesting spots for pictures, took a metro ride and loved it, went on a hydrofoil ride to see the Peterhoff gardens which are incredibly beautiful. Went to the Tzar’s Village And toured Catherine’s Palace and the Amber room. Spectacular! Went on to St Isaac’s Cathedral which was breathtaking, and Anna was once again full of incredible information on everything in the church. Then on to Savior on Spilt Blood. A history lesson on the way to it as to how and why it was built. Once again Anna was so brilliant about the church and it was beautiful inside. After that a quick, stop at the Hard Rock Cafe for souvenirs and back to the ship. Day 2 had Anna and Slava meeting us again, and off to a river and canal tour. We were the only 3 people on the canal boat! This is the personalized service given by Anastasia. We were met outside of The Hermitage by Anastasia’s owner with a picture taken of my husband and I on the first day (taken by a photographer) and a small gift of chocolate. She was so kind and wanted to make sure we were enjoying our tour. I hugged her hard and said we were beyond thrilled with our tour
We were also given back packs with snacks and water, ponchos in case it rained and a booklet full of historic facts. This is the kind of very personalized service Anastasia provides. We spent over 4 and a half hours in The Hermitage and it was incredible. Anna got us in past waiting groups p, and knew everything about all the rooms, paintings, mosaics, sculptures, jewels, decorated floors and ceilings along with the history of everything. She was an exceptionally smart, and pretty guide who never left our side and made sure we enjoyed every minute of these two days. We even heard stories of her grandmother’s experiences during the war, how her family lived in a Russia, and the pride she has in her country. We then finished day two at Peter and Paul fortress and Cathedral. We were back to the ship in plenty of time before it left port, and tired but thrilled with the totally awesome two days we spent with Anna and Slava. If you ever get to St Petersburg we highly recommend Anastasia Travel for an experien5ce you will never forget. Ask for Anna and Slava, they are a dynamic duo. Anastasia also does tours in Tallin, Helsinki and Stockholm which we wish we had known about.

  • Old Town of Tallinn
Town was very interesting and our guide was good. The very old buildings and streets were interesting to see. The big fair going on in the own square had many great booths filled with all kinds of treasures to bring home. The old apothecary shop that is still a working apothecary today, was a fun surprise to see.
