We enjoyed every city that we visited on this cruise and learned so much from our tour guides. Because the river was low, we had to switch ships at the midpoint. Viking made the switch seem seamless. Because we were so busy every day and walked so much, you really were too tired for much entertainment at night. You don't do a river cruise for the entertainment. You do a river cruise for the convenience of not having to pack your suitcase every night and for the all inclusive nature of the trip.
I wish Viking would make it truly all inclusive and include gratuities.
The food was very good, but on a 2 week cruise, it gets repetitive towards the end. But really, nothing to complain about there.
We all wished that they would offer featured local beers each day. We were in Germany!
They did a better job separating out the people on walkers into a seperate group this time so they wouldn't slow down the other groups.
Since we weren't in the cabin that much we chose to book the lowest class cabin. It was clean and comfortable and met our needs. We were above board most of the time either on top of the ship as we cruised or in the lounge.
Included tour. Our guide was wonderful. Her Mom experienced the change in Budapest after the Soviets took over and she gave us a lot of details on that. The rest of the time we explored on our own. Budapest is a very walkable city. Don't miss the market if you are there when it's open. We went as soon as we arrived on Saturday because it closes at 3 and isn't open on Sunday. Our cruise ship surprised us with a night cruise of all the palaces lit up. Don't miss that!View All 353 City Tour Reviews
We took the subway and toured Schonbrunn Palace on our own. It was very easy to do. Viking gave us subway maps and helped us know which station to use.View All 179 Schonbrunn Palace Reviews
Interesting Medieval city.
The Melk Abbey was OK. Might consider the Gottwieg Abbey Dinner excursion.View All 182 Melk Abbey Reviews
Climb to the top, the view is great! It's not that difficult.View All 184 Cologne Cathedral Reviews
Make sure you watch the 2011 The Three Musketeers movie. It was filmed in Wurzburg. Also, ask your guide about where to get a glass of Franconian wine on the bridge. This town was one of our favorites.
Tour of Marksburg Castle was good because the castle is so well preserved. And the cruising on the Rhine past all of the castles that morning was beautiful. Our cruise director did a good job of telling the history of many of the castles.View All 104 Walking Tour Reviews
The smoke flavor beer is horrible (but you have to try it) but the town is fascinating. Thoroughly enjoyed our time here.
