We chose HAL Westerdam because we wanted to see Glacier Bay on our first trip to Alaska (and our first cruise!). We actually went against the advice of our travel agent who thought we would be happier with a luxury line even though they don't stop at Glacier Bay. I think she was right and next time we will listen to her.

Westerdam Is not a bad ship but the decor is dated and the service can be indifferent and sometimes rude. Here's an idea of what we loved, liked and didn't like:

Neptune Deluxe Verandah Suite

Cabin SA

Large with plenty of storage space. Very close to the Neptune Lounge. Large balcony on the port side. Close to elevators. Very comfortable bed. If HAL renovated it so it had modern decor it was be truly amazing. As it is, it looks a bit dated.
