OH NO, DON’T GO! CRUISE FROM HELL! GOT SICK! PROFITS OVER PASSENGERS! Celebrity Solstice Alaska Cruise. Embarkation, guest services & excursions were horrible. (1.) Embarkation day was a nightmare. 3 ships in port. Arrived at 11:30 a.m. Didn’t board ship for many hrs. Totally disorganized. Port reps stated no Celebrity reps to assist. Check-in counter’s credit card machine malfunctioned. Waited longer. Took hrs. Then instructed to go to another room & wait for our number to be called. Then directed to another room. 100’s of passengers in back and forth lines. Port reps reminded us 3 ships were in port. I asked “Why don’t you have 2 ships in port on one day & the 3rd another day”. Celebrity contracts with the port, we pay port fees, makes Celebrity responsible. Celebrity reps should be present & assist it’s passengers without giving full authority to the port. During the week, embarkation stories were common topic amongst passengers. Elderly woman complained that she waited in line for hrs. & was refused food for her diabetic husband. (2.) Specialty dining discount offer in room. Discount in specialty restaurants if prepaid on the 1st day of cruise, could be used any night of cruise. Called to confirm with guest services. Was told it was valid on 1st night only. Asked to speak with Neal, the manager. Guest services rep asked what it was regarding. When I said “I preferred to speak with the manager,” she rudely said “What do you think this is a bloody hotel”. Guest service staff were patronizing figureheads who lack authority to make decisions. (3.) Booked the ship’s 1st log cutting show & totem pole excursion in Ketchikan. Met early in the morning. 5 ships in port that day so had to tender in. Were delayed & missed our scheduled log show returning hours later. Delayed us so that 2nd excursion group was on time & saw the show before us. 2 1/2 hr. excursion became 5 1/2hrs. Returned to ship for lunch just as food was put away. Day was chaotic, not fun & frustrating. (4.) Began to feel ill on the last day of the cruise. Arrived home sick (vomiting, diarrhea, & developed a rash).
