We chose this cruise because we wanted to travel on a river cruise and see the Rhine River and the castles and cities of the Rhine. The fact that it also cruised through Switzerland and France was a definite plus. Also the fact that tours, wine and beer were included convinced us to travel with Viking. Embarkation and disembarkation went off without a hitch. The ship was phenomenal, the cabin terrific, the staff amazing and the food and wine beyond belief. Arrival date was our 44th wedding anniversary and my husband's birthday also took place during our cruise. The staff serenaded us both times and brought a cake and champagne. It was great and so much fun. At every port there was an included tour and often an optional tour. The tours went off without a hitch although sometimes certain tour guides "talked too much." But perhaps that was just their enthusiasm for their city or their topic. Upon return to the ship we were always greeted with a juice drink and cold towels with which to refresh as well as smiling and happy crew members. It is clear that the crew on the Alruna are a "family" and truly enjoy their job. They smile, they are enthusiastic, they are helpful, they are amazing. Particularly the Program Director, Sebastion and the Hotel Manager, Evelyn have a handle on every single detail. I was amazed at their efficiency and their stamina. They were like the "Eveready Bunny" - they never stopped. Our table staff Yolana and Arlan, and the Maitre d' Alfred were such fun and so great to talk to at each meal. After one day they knew your name, your likes and dislikes and were always ready to be at your service. I cannot say enough good comments about our trip on the Alruna.
