Our first cruise experience, we were looking for a relaxing holiday, excellent food, an interesting itinerary, activities to keep our 14 year old son happy, and a great way to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary.
The ship is amazing! The service from all staff was fabulous in t e staeroom, dining room, bars and security. If only Guest Relations were as good! We had a small problem with pre-paid drinks packages, reported it to GR who promised to look into it nad get back to us, which tney didn’t and it was only resolved when I emailed our cruise concierge atCelebrity’s UK booking line who confirmed we were right and contacted the ship.
My son had a great time at Teen Club and met some good friends. He also loved tho food and we felt tne shop was a safe place for him to explore on his own.
The food in MDR, Mast Grill and Ocean View was superb! Qsine was a lovely novelty experience we all enjoyed.
The on board musicians and the resident band were good. Indeed, I am not sure what the guest artistes would have done without them as they certainly bailed them out on more than one occasion. The guest artistes were fairly mediocre and there could have been variety or a few Broadway shows. The ABBA sing along was great but stopped after just 45 mins when people were really starting to enjoy themselves. All in all disappointing.
We had an Oceanview Stateroom and were very pleasantly surprised with the space and facilites.
Onboard, it does feel that Celebrity are trying to bleed every last buck out of you! Gratuities, extras, restaurants, spa, very expensive shops, accupuncture etc. all very highly priced and far less expensive at home. Shore excursions were also very expensive and we found that we could see the same things for far less on our own or with the hop on buses.
Disembarkation was very well organised, but embarkation at Rome was chaotic! Not at all organised and many people were waiting long time in very hot weather begire getting on a bus to check in. Luggage check in was also chaotic. No clear instructions whete to keave luggage and very busy.
Disappointed not to see captain and senior crew mingling with guests but maybe they only spoke to Captains Club?
Disapoointed that nobody mentioned our anniversary or even offered us a free glass of champers, even though we told the cruise cincierge at time of booking and she said they usually organise a celebration. Although on our last day I read somewhere that we could have paid for a cake ourselves at some point. Seems a bit mean and not really first class service to encourage customers to return.
Adequate storage, comfortable beds, nice shower room, nice balcony but needed a 3rd chair for 3rd passenger.
