Columbus Cruise Review by TeeHeeHee
- Sail Date: July 2018
- Destination: Baltic Sea
All staff encountered very friendly
Cleaning – constant, especially restrooms and lifts
Cabins – good size and plenty of storage, comfortable beds
Premium Drinks package – good value
Food, overall, was of a good standard
The Grill (speciality dining)– excellent
We found the evening shows enjoyable and of a reasonable standard
Boarding was quick and efficient
Could be improved
Insufficient sun loungers – deck space is available to cater for more (including on the Promenade Deck). This was a ‘multi generational cruise’ so we had more passengers than is the norm. A lot of ‘reserving’ of beds was in evidence – always difficult to police by the crew. The weather, throughout the cruise, was very good so being in the open was extremely popular.
Connexions Bar – too many of the seats are on the low side (difficult for seniors to get out of)
Chef’s interpretation of some ‘classic’ dishes was open to question.
Sightlines in The Palladium Theatre are often poor and there are a lot of individual chairs (whole rows of them). Anyone not aware of this could be in trouble if leaning back.
One forward lift was ‘Under Maintenance’ for the entire cruise but, in reality, had been out of service for months – it didn’t appear to cause any problems though.
Afternoon Tea is available only in the Plantation (buffet area).
Breakfast service in the main restaurant (Waterfront) could be a bit slow which, in turn, led to the buffet area being very busy at times.
Waterfront Restaurant layout is unusual, slightly raised in the central area, with lots of booth type tables and bench seating. This makes it impossible for the waiters to serve you in the correct manner.
Daily information sheet has a ‘suggested’ Dress Code only and the suggestion is not enforced – smart casual was acceptable all the time.
