Royal Caribbean-Navigator of the Seas
Living on Florida's west coast and being over 55, I can book at the last minute, sail out of any of Florida's five ports, and usually get senior and Florida resident discounts. This makes cruising affordable for someone on a fixed income. I travel solo and cruise almost exclusively with RCI because they usually have the lowest single supplements.
The January 30, 2010 cruise was my second on the Navigator of the Seas in six weeks. I had a deck 9 balcony cabin, quite roomy and comfortable. Twin beds were joined and although RCI said it was a queen bed, it was more like a king. There was a long sofa and small table. The bathroom is small with limited space for toiletries, but I travel with an over-the-door canvas shoe bag containing my toiletries, hairbrush, etc., so I had plenty of room. The cabin had a small safe, refrigerator, and hair dryer (not a very good one). The balcony had 2 pool-style chairs and a small table; also very comfortable. The cabin attendent was excellent and made sure I had ice twice a day as requested. My gratuities were pre-paid (required with my time dining), but I tipped him $2 extra per day in cash. I was quite surprised that his attitude after receiving the gratuities was just short of rude. I wonder if he expected more?
9636 is a roomy cabin for 1 or 2 people. The twin beds convert to larger than queen. The balcony extends the space and is a nice place to read or relax. Counter top space in the bathroom is limited (same with all the cabins) so use a hanging shoe bag for your toiletries and convenience. Having a safe and refrigerator is a plus. The hairdryer is lightweight and you might want to bring your own.
