Firstly I must say if you want to be sure of getting into the port of St Petersburg make sure of the size of the boat you are sailing on.
My husband and I sailed from Southampton on the Silhouette really excited about the cruise to see that amazing city in Russia but we didn't get there due to bad weather and whilst I understand that the safety of the passengers is paramount there is no way that a ship of the size ( 3000 + ) should be on that route,
We spent two days floating approximately 25 miles off the coast of Russia in high winds watching smaller vessels go through the channel to St. Petersburg and of course Celebrity's reply to our complaint that we didn't get to St Petersbuirg is that type of situation 'is in the small print ' so no compensation, its not that I wanted compensation I wanted to see St Petersburg and now that's not going to happen. I think that as paying passengers someone needs to let future possible passengers know that they need to check on the size of the boat they book because even though it happens that sometimes you are unable to get into ports due to bad weather it definitely shouldn't be because you are too big for a small port if there are high winds.
