We traveled with our two sons and wife’s brother to celebrate our 35th anniversary. (Unacknowledged on board but always acknowledged for upsale pitches on the phone.) We chose AK because it is beautiful and RCL because our young adult sons were looking for action (Flowrider, etc.) Boarding was relatively easy. Get there early is our advice. We had an inside promenade cabin and impeccable service provided by Gede. We were a little concerned about noise from the promenade, but it wasn’t a problem.
We all had a wonderful time together. The only day the ship seemed crowded was on an at-sea day that was cold and very windy, so everyone was inside. The weather for the rest of the time was amazingly wonderful for Alaska in June. Everyone in our party found plenty to do on-board, and we met at mealtime.
We mostly ate meals in the main dining room, which has quality service all the time. The dinner menu is posted on a flat screen monitor outside the dining room (if it is working.) We had early seating for dinner, which worked well for us. The main dining room meals were excellent with lots of good choices making decisions hard. My wife would not allow me to ask to have my thermos filled up with the fruit soup of the day. ☹ The modest servings allow you to try more things. The only fail I had was a Manhattan Steak off the Classic menu. I was surprised that the taste and texture was only fast-food restaurant quality. Our dining staff, Angelo and Ray, gave fabulous service. One night we were a half hour late and were still welcomed and treated superbly. They had just the right amount of helpfulness and service without being overbearing or intrusive.
The room had adequate space and storage. We did not find it necessary to take out the shoe holder for the bathroom. The room feels spacious with the window over looking the promenade. You do have to be careful about what you are wearing (or not) when the curtains are open to the promenade. We surprisingly did not have any problems with noise from the promenade.
