We chose this cruise because we had never been on a southern Caribbean cruise previously. It was with serious caution that we booked on Carnival having less than ideal experiences on our first cruise which was on Carnival Liberty. We are married couple with a 10-year-old child and took this cruise because it fit within our schedule and was visiting ports we have ever been to.
The cabin and the ships public spaces were well maintained and very clean. Our cabins skewered was excellent, friendly and always greeted us by name. The two excursions we took, one swimming with dolphins in La Romana, and snorkeling from a catamaran in Aruba were both excellent and fairly priced.
Having previously sailed on Celebrity, Royal Caribbean, Norwegian and Disney, to compare to. One thing that was missing from the Vista was a public space that was indoors and quiet. Loud music both live and recorded, were prevalent throughout the ship. The Serenity dock for adults only was outside and without shade. Almost every other crew ship we have been on has for example quiet locations such as a library or a forward lounge on an upper deck with an expansive view of the sea.
The stateroom was clean and comfortable and well-maintained. Our stateroom steward did excellent job every day. Being on a lower deck and far forward, the no ways of waves slamming against the hall while the ship was in motion was at times quite loud and even vibrated the room. The air conditioning system for the stateroom was without question the most effective of any stateroom we have been in. We were able to keep the room nice and cool which was very pleasant given the warm August temperatures.
