We chose this cruise because we had never been on a southern Caribbean cruise previously. It was with serious caution that we booked on Carnival having less than ideal experiences on our first cruise which was on Carnival Liberty. We are married couple with a 10-year-old child and took this cruise because it fit within our schedule and was visiting ports we have ever been to. The cabin and the ships public spaces were well maintained and very clean. Our cabins skewered was excellent, friendly and always greeted us by name. The two excursions we took, one swimming with dolphins in La Romana, and snorkeling from a catamaran in Aruba were both excellent and fairly priced. Having previously sailed on Celebrity, Royal Caribbean, Norwegian and Disney, to compare to. One thing that was missing from the Vista was a public space that was indoors and quiet. Loud music both live and recorded, were prevalent throughout the ship. The Serenity dock for adults only was outside and without shade. Almost every other crew ship we have been on has for example quiet locations such as a library or a forward lounge on an upper deck with an expansive view of the sea. Enrichment activities that other cruise lines offer include lectures to learn more about the ports and natural features relative to the cruise. An example of an enrichment activity I'm Vista was beer pong. Hardly something that I could call enriching. Meals at the Lido marketplace buffet were a letdown. Our first day onboard after embarkation we found the the Lido buffet and it was way over capacity. Lines were very long and there were no seeds to be had. This experience was commonplace multiple times during the cruise. Most other cruise lines offer a wide variety of foods in their buffet area. Extensive salads, ethnic cuisine, etc. The Vista had for individual food names that were identical to one another in their offerings. There would be at most 12 to 15 food items and rarely did day belong with one another. For example, there may be a Chinese dish next to spaghetti which was next to paella. It was as if the menu were selected by committee or from a dartboard. Often, we found hot items to be at room temperature as well as cold items not chilled. We had selected early dinner in the Main dining room and found ourselves there most evenings simply to avoid the frustration from the buffet experience. The waitstaff was very attentive, provided quality service and greeted us by name each evening. There was enough variety of the menus to find something to enjoy, however typical of most main dining rooms, the portions were small. Food did arrive at the table at the appropriate temperature. We did it enjoy dinner once in the on-board steakhouse. Service, food quality, environment, and presentation were all excellent. Our son did partake in the children's programming at camp ocean almost every day. He did enjoy the interaction with other children and the programs conducted by the staff. Another letdown was the evening entertainment. We did not get to see any of it. Many of the evening shows began at a rather late hour and well past our child's bedtime.

Cabin Review

Interior
Cabin 4B 2215
The stateroom was clean and comfortable and well-maintained. Our stateroom steward did excellent job every day. Being on a lower deck and far forward, the no ways of waves slamming against the hall while the ship was in motion was at times quite loud and even vibrated the room. The air conditioning system for the stateroom was without question the most effective of any stateroom we have been in. We were able to keep the room nice and cool which was very pleasant given the warm August temperatures.
