Sail Date: Jun 2018

We flew into Oslo 2 days early where we got to explore the waterfront, a fabulous sculpture park, Olympic ski jump and viking ship museum before taking the train over the mountains to Bergen. With another day to explore Bergen Norway we were relaxed and ready to board the ship which was conveniently docked in the harbor. Embarkation was quick and easy. Lunch was served and we had time to explore the ship until our room was ready. All cabins have a balcony and are efficiently designed and comfortable. I liked having your shipboard account, TED lectures, port talks and guest lectures available on the cabin TV as well as attending them in person. The ship was beautifully decorated and just the right size for us. We don't care for large ships with casinos, water slides and long lines. It was definitely adult focused. All the food was excellent and the complementary wine and beer at lunch and dinner was a nice touch. We dined outside as much as possible, especially at lunch. The itinerary was great with something new to see every day and night. As we travelled North, having a cabin on the starboard side provided a constant view of Norway's coast. Weather varied greatly so a winter coat was needed at the North Cape and it was unusually hot and sunny in London. Thus the covered main pool was great and the roof was slid back in London. Due to bad weather the captain had to slow the ship and we missed going to the Shetland Islands. But he did a great job along with the ship's design keeping us sailing as smoothly as possible across the Norwegian sea to Scotland. The pianist, cellist, violinist, flute player and band were wonderful. All the staff were great and we got to know many of them over the 15 days. Tipping was automatically added to your account, but could be charged if desired. We only took the included excursions which provided an overview of each port, but many other interesting ones were available. Loved the SPA. One could use the pool, hot tub, ice grotto and steam room without booking a treatment. We did the Nordic bathing ritual which was interesting. We would definitely recommend Viking Cruises.
