We wanted to go to Havana, and the only way to do it would be aboard an older and smaller ship. We went in knowing this, and still, it was not a good experience.
The water in our stateroom, and all other staterooms (guests and staff) was yellowish-brown, the color of urine, our entire cruise. When we raised this issue to guest services, they would just try to shush us by offering free bottled water, or eventually, a future cruise discount certificate. But they never once made a ship-wide announcement about it, despite the fact that EVERYONE was very concerned about it.
We felt like it really hindered our ability to enjoy ourselves, because we couldn't get a straight answer about WHY the water was discolored, whether it was SAFE, and/or whether it was used in the food preparation areas as well, or if they were using alternate water. As such, we stuck to food onboard that didn't require water (grilled meats, cereal, etc.) and despite having the deluxe beverage package, only drank bottled water, beer, and wine, as we didn't know if the ice was affected.
Our cabin was great, the balcony was great, our attendant was great - but the yellowish brown water in the sink and shower were disgusting. This wasn't just our room though. The whole ship was affected.
