We wanted to visit a different part of France. Bordeaux is a pretty, historic town. There was not as much cruising on this trip due to the tides (unlike other river boat itineraries elsewhere), but we knew that in advance and it was not a problem. I think more wine tastings in the afternoon at different Chateaux would have been nice. We really only did that on 2 days.
Highlights we're visiting St. Emillion (right bank) and visiting Chateaux Kirwin for dinner and touring through the left bank and seeing many famous chateaux and vineyards.. Learned alot more about Bordeaux wines than we knew before.
I wish bike rentals would have been more available and promoted, since I saw other cruise boats where the bikes were on standby at the boat docks.
Most, if not all, of the tour guides were excellent. Susie, the tour director, really tries hard and did a nice job.
All the meals were delicious, and you will not run out of wine - white or red was flowing continually at lunch and dinner, and unfortunately alot probably was wasted. Talked to several other travelers who were connoisseurs and knowledgeable. Wait staff were very good and often very entertaining. I would probably do another Viling River Cruise in the future,
Perfect location - couldn't be closer in proximity to everything.
