  3. Viking Star
Viking is a premium line, offering food and amenities that are a step above the main lines. We have sailed with Princess, HA, X multiple times and enjoy, but Oceania and Viking are our current first choices. Star is a lovely ship, very clean and well maintained. Lots of folks talk about heated floor in the bathroom .. sounds like a minor thing, but it is really nice and makes a difference! This attention to details is what is great about Viking. Overall, we like the food and restaurant selections a bit better on Oceania, but Viking in MDR was very good, and many meals were excellent. We generally prefer formal dining at large tables on Princess and HA .. Viking is personal choice for dining, but tables for two are close to each other and friendly passengers make the experience similar and nice. We found "included" wine selection to be good enough. Included wines rotate each night to pair with menu, but we were always able to also get one of the choices from early in cruise that we liked - just ask.... We are most often on larger ships, and like cruising for ship time and sea days to relax. For first timers on Viking ... get ready, as they are much more "work" than typical main lines! Included tours were overall good, and you'll have a tour every day. This is part of the Viking experience, so don't pass it up. One tip .. included tours will have multiple groups with random assignments, and are identified (sign the guide carries) by the channel number on voicebox. If you're not fully thrilled with your guide, and see another group near by, then tune into their channel and see if you might like that guide and their descriptions better ... then you can wander over and switch it up. Ports in the Adriatic are all very interesting for history, and all are focused around the port areas. Be sure to do an in-depth (optional or private) tour in Athens to really experience the Parthenon and museum. We disembarked in Venice and stayed couple of additional days - arrangements thru Viking were good. We signed up for couple of different Venice Free Walking Tours (google it) which were great ... tour guides are often art students who take you around to places more off the beaten path, and can give you more of an insider perspective about life in the beautiful (and crowded!) city. Only cost is tip at the end... Viking air arrangements and support were good - we were pleased. Delay in outbound Austin-London leg for departure would have been a big problem ... British Air was completely unhelpful ... one of the supervisors at Viking support was able to get BA to re-ticket us correctly with alternative itinerary ... yea! Be sure to try afternoon tea onboard in the atrium at least once or couple of times .. it is quite nice!
