We hoped to have a comfortable, interesting, informative, relaxing trip with good food and a staff that seemed genuinely satisfied with their jobs and management. It was all that and more. From beginning to end, the staff was all we could ask for--friendly, attentive, and good-natured. Our mid-price room was comfortable, convenient and quiet. The ship is beautifully designed with many areas for relaxing, most of which included books on shelves, many of which related to the trip we were on. The sophisticated, talented entertainment (guitarist, pianist, and classical trio) was always a pleasure. Sometimes the food was what you'd usually expect on a ship, and other times it was amazingly good and in a variety of ways. The coffee machines that were available 24 hours a day, included lattes and cappuccinos, and were as good as such self-serve machines can be, in our experience. The talks were not precious stone sales seminars as we've experienced on other cruises, but lectures by informed and informative professionals. And the included excursions were not time-killers but rather provided us with views and experiences of the areas that made each bus trip worth taking. The small mid-size ship held just over 900 passengers, which had the advantage of seeming more civilized in addition to allowing our ship to go where larger ones cannot, a very nice advantage. Of the seven cruises we've been on, this was by far the best--in fact, it's hard to imagine that a better cruise line exists for visiting Norway than that of Viking,

It was a bit smaller than comparable rooms on other ships we've been on--we had to push the chairs back and shove the heavy coffee table between them so we wouldn't bang our shins into it when we went to use the desk or go out on the balcony. There was slightly less storage space than we are used to.
