Cabin: Balcony

I went on this cruise as part of a group of five others. I shared an outside cabin with a balcony. The ship is smaller than normal which made things a little too cozy. The deck pool was tiny and the three "jacuzzis" were lukewarm. In order to get a "warm" jacuzzi, I had to pay almost $200 extra to gain access to the spa for one week then they had issues with the temperature regulation element and I couldn't use the spa two of the six days. Food was adequate but not spectacular. The best food is found in the smaller specialty restaurants, however, we had a shellfish cross contamination issue at the French restaurant which made one of the guests in our party have a medical emergency.

Halfway through the cruise, I decided to try my hand at the casino. The electronic games are tied to the room for charges. The problem is, the office will place "a hold" on your credit card for the mandatory daily service charge instead of putting the charge through each day. As the "hold" is not an official charge until it is put through, you cannot pay it off until it becomes an official charge. In order to avoid the hold, I paid a $700 cash deposit on the room instructing them to NOT charge the credit card unless I ran out of cash. They kept the cash and charged my credit card anyway at the end of the cruise WITHOUT authorization. As easy as it was for them to take my money and charge my card, you think it would be just as easy to refund the $700 which has not yet happened. I am pretty sure it is illegal, but it is now a lesson learned.

The staff was all over the place in terms of service. Some of the Bartenders were amazing, yet many of the staff members are not only not very friendly, but downright rude. I personally watched them argue with their passengers. When they screwed up with my credit card hold issue, I was told that I was to blame and to call my credit card company instead of just trying to solve the issue. Security was slow at responding to emergencies at best. There was an issue both in the casino and the dance club and during both times, it took over 15 minutes for security to get there. Even though I spent a great deal of time walking through the main concourse, I was never greeted or approached by the excursions or entertainment staff. I felt like they did not think I had sufficient income as a single traveler to bother with any offers.
