Last year, we booked an upgraded cabin on the Viking Sky for early Spring 2018. We booked our own airfare (we did not use the Viking Services) because we wanted to spend two nights in Rome to adjust to the time change and to explore this city on our own. We flew into Venice and met our ship at the Port. This was my first ocean cruise for me. I have been on one River Cruise with Viking and enjoyed it so much, it was time for the ocean experience.

The embarkation and disembarkation was very smooth, most of Italy's ports have tight security which posed no problems or long waits to enter/exit our ship. Since we did not book airfare through Viking, we booked with Radio Taxi and encountered no problems getting from the Venice airport to the port. We ended our cruise in Rome and used Viking transfers to the airport, again, this went very smoothly.

The Viking Sky is a beautiful ship. It never felt crowded. No children on the ship. Mostly older retires with a smattering of younger coupes. We upgraded our cabin to Penthouse Jr. Suite and loved it. Lots of room, free laundry service (comes with upgrade), a bottle of champagne in the refrigerator. Very comfortable bed. I loved going out on deck as we pulled into port, usually it was early morning. Dining was excellent, all the food we ate on the ship was fresh, some was local (lots of seafood). We went to both restaurants on board and Manfredi's was my favorite, I had a steak there that was grilled perfectly and served with a grilled lemon. We did not purchase the beverage package, we don't really drink too much - but we did have a pre-dinner drinks in the Explorer's Lounge after a long day of seeing Italy. The cost for our nightly cocktails was way less then buying a beverage package. Service from Viking in all categories was excellent, absolutely zero complaints from us!

Cabin Review

Excellent. Lots of room, bathroom had two sinks and large shower. Bed was comfortable. Upgrade provided free laundry service. There was a large folding room divider between the bed and the living area, each with a big screen TV. Ample storage space.
