We love Viking River Cruises, so decided to try this ocean cruise - the itinerary looked, and was, amazing. The many ports and the shore excursions were very good - enough options to meet a variety of interests. The cabin was quite nice and comfortable, with plenty of room for storage and movement. The cabin stewards, the dining room and cafe/kitchen staff, the maintenance people, all staff members were friendly. It was obvious that the desire is to anticipate needs and possible disruptions, in order to help us feel safe and comfortable.
My only suggestion is for better communication between the Viking flight booking staff, and the on-board customer service staff, and the airline. Those of us flying to the post-cruise extension had some difficulties and the on-board staff was unable to assist us. Had they called the airline for us, as asked, or communicated with the Viking people who made the reservations, perhaps this group of people wouldn't have had a stressful disembarkation. The ocean-cruise crew may need to learn more about the disembarkation-transport to the airport and at-airport services provided by the river-cruise crew. I trust this will improve in time because Viking strives for excellence.
That said, we are looking forward to another Viking Ocean cruise in January.
