This was my wife and my 4th cruise, all with Royal Caribbean. The first was Rhapsody of the Seas for a 7-night Western Caribbean cruise out of Galveston (external room with portal), the second Legend of the Seas for a 13-night Italy cruise (interior room), and the third was Freedom of the Seas out of Florida for a 7-night Eastern Caribbean cruise (junior suite). Freedom demonstrated a true cutting back of costs by Royal, eliminating chocolate night and providing lower quality food at the main dining room each night for dinner. Freedom did have some desserts on the last day parade.
We picked Voyager because we live near Galveston and the pricing was low. The cruise went the 3 stops - Roatan, Honduras; Costa Maya, Mexico; and Cozumel, Mexico.
We started off by leaving the house around 11 am, arriving at the dock around 11:30 am. Though the driving to the dock to drop off luggage and then getting bussed over to the ship was time consuming (slowed by people disembarking both the Royal Caribbean and Carnival ships), once we got in line, our Platinum status made a quick trip through the lines to receive our SeaPass cards and get on the ship. We were on board by 12:30 pm.
The interior cabin is not as bad as people describe. Yes, you have to climb out of the bed on the end as opposed to the side. As mentioned above, bring extra hangers and hang the majority of the clothing. Put anything extra in the room (books, table) in your closet to open up the room.
The bed is quite comfortable and you can stow your suitcases underneath the bed. The pillows are so-so, but you'll be plenty tired if you stay active in ship activities.
The bathroom is much nicer now that the curtains have been replaced by a door.
We learned on Freedom to bring your own face towels as they use so much chlorine, we broke out.
