We chose to take this cruise because it went to locations in Northern Europe that we would not as a practical matter be able to visit other than on a cruise. Many of the ports were small and relatively inaccessible by any other means. We chose the timing of the cruise to coincide with the summer solstice. The ship is beautiful and never felt crowded. One of the unexpected pleasures, on this our first ocean cruise, was how much we enjoyed the days when were entirely at sea.
We attended onboard cultural programs, including lectures by a historian, naturalist, and art historian. The lecturers were well qualified and sensitive to the backgrounds of the passengers, i.e., respectful of passengers general level of education. The spa was convenient, available without additional charge, and there was helpful orientation from the spa staff.
We dined in both of the specialty restaurants, particularly appreciating the tasting menus with paired wines. That said, one of our best meals on board was in the main dining room.
The cabin layout was highly functional and up to date. Each side of the bed had USB outlets for recharging phones, etc., and North American (110v) and European (220v) outlets. There was a seating area with hassocks, a desk, and sufficient storage that we could unpack and store our luggage. The cabin had an original artwork from a school in China sponsored by Viking and the finish on the bulkheads had a natural feel.
