This cruise on the Viking Star traveled a very interesting route that enabled us to return to Italy and Greece while seeing new locales, especially Croatia, Monaco, southern France, and Spain.

Onboard service was uniformly excellent, with a highly competent and attentive staff. The entertainment ranged from very good to superb, with an unusual degree of variety.. A similar range applied to the cuisine. The offerings at the Chef’s Table were especially imaginative and delicious. The dinners at The Restaurant were fairly basic, but tasty. The only mild disappointment was the ship’s Italian restaurant.

The shore excursions had a wider range of quality. The guided tours of Dubrovnik and Split, Venice’s islands of Murano and Burana, and Herculaneum were excellent. Those of Florence and Barcelona were no more than adequate, and the tour of Monaco and Nice was acutely frustrating and disappointing.
